MAKEUP WEEK WITH GOOGLE: How do I fix cakey makeup?

Okay just in my opinion I think the obvious answer is to not apply 40 layers of makeup so that you look like a cake. HOWEVER if you do want to apply 40 layers of makeup that makes you look like a cake you better work it and make your face look as if it was the winner of cupcake wars 💢YOU HEAR ME??? 💢

In all seriousness though I hope to give you guys some tips that will help prevent the look of a caked up face!! When it comes to makeup I am the definition of "started from the bottom now we here". In 7th grade I wore tinted moisturizer for my "foundation", white eyeliner on my LIDS not my waterline *shudders* AND wait for it.....blue freaking mascara.😷

Thank God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit that there are no more pictures of me from that horrible phase in my life. Now, 7 years later I am an aspiring MUA and I believe that makeup is a beautiful art form that lets people express themselves. Makeup is all trial and error and is very subjective (except the look I had in 7th grade, not cute, don't do it).

When I started wearing a lot of makeup in 10th grade people would say I wore too much, but I didn't listen to them and now I think I'm pretty good at it. And they are all wearing a crap ton of makeup too so I don't want to hear it!
After my rant let me finally get to my tips as to how to make your makeup not look cakey!
  • Use primer!! It makes sure the foundation lays evenly and smoothly
  • Use an almost to full coverage foundation
  • Moisturize and avoid products that dry out your skin
  • Use a translucent powder to set your makeup
  • Use a damp sponge to apply the foundation
  • USE A SETTING SPRAY
If wearing a minimal amount of makeup makes you confident then go for it. If wearing every product under the sun makes you confident then do that!! I just wanted to provide tips that help you look a little less cakey...but hey, if you wanna look like a cake..then rock. that. look.😎

  1. Cupcake Wars is such a good show, I highly recommend. But yes, cakey makeup is a NOOOOO. I personally always moisturize my face beforehand and use a damp sponge to apply my foundation to keep it looking nice and skin-like.
They should make a foundation that smells like cake though... I'd be into that.
