PHOBIA WEEK WITH GOOGLE: Can you get over a Phobia?

YESSSSSS!!!

Now the saying "time heals all wounds" may not apply to something as serious as getting over phobias, but with a lot of work, anything is possible!!!

In a nutshell, phobias are irrational fears that billions of people have, but may not always admit. I personally have tonsssss of fears (that are rational), but in terms of phobias, I'm 100000% sure I have Arachnophobia. This is the irrational fear of spiders😷

In fact it's actually pretty bad.

I've literally broken my window blinds trying to kill a spider the size of a grain of rice or one time it was like 4am in the morning and I saw a spider crawling on my wall behind my bed, BOYYYYYYY I went to get a shoe and LOST THE F###ING SPIDER!!!! I literally tore my bed apart thinking the spider would somehow crawl in there while I'm sleeping and lay some eggs or some sh#t so I was determined to kill that thing😂

After searching for it for like 30 minutes I started crying😭I mean I felt bad waking up my mom or dad to find it and kill it but I was really breaking down. A couple minutes go by and I'm just sitting on my floor thinking to myself what I should do. Thank sweet baby Jesus I saw it start to crawl, you know what that meansssss😏

I could finally kill it!!!!

Geez I sound like a crazy murderer, but I promise I just really hate spiders😂

Now I admit I haven't taken any actual steps to get over my phobia. Only because the odds of me being near a spider in a closed-in space are very low.
Plus I obviously have no problem killing them and it's not like I live in Australia or something...
now their spiders...their spiders are on steroids or something cause they are HUGE.

So there are billions of phobias that are much more severe than mine so if you're on of those people I suggest you take baby steps to face your fears and get over them one day.

I would personally start by trying to individually get over my fear by exposing myself to it gradually until I get comfortable. It may seem impossible, but keeping up with that exposure will make a huge difference.
You should also learn calming techniques so you don't feel extra scared or overwhelmed. And if individually exposing yourself doesn't work, then maybe give therapy a try.

But you should never feel weird or uncomfortable letting people close to you know about your phobias, in reality we are all scared of something. So if you're on your journey to get over your phobia(s) I wish you luck and remember... YOU GOT THIS!!!!!

  2. Spiders are definitely a no no for me as well. I know for phobias though they even have books for specific phobias telling you how to get past them. Also, therapy is always an option of course. Exposure is definitely a great technique and I think works 99% of the time!!
